Google Drops Support for IE7, Firefox 3, and Safari 3
Upgrade to a newer Browser, like IE9
Internet Explorer version 9 was released on March 14, 2011. This browser version supports several HTML5 features, like video and audio tags.
Top features of IE9:
- Cleaner interface- IE9 does away with a lot of the clutter, combining the address bar, tabs, and navigation buttons onto a single row.
- Tab pinning- In Internet Explorer 9, tabs can be pinned to the Windows 7 task bar, just like programs
- It’s fast-improved speed during browsing and downloads
- Tab isolation- tab isolation means that each tab runs as its own process on your computer meaning that (in theory) if one crashes, it doesn’t take down all the rest with it.
- Smaller notifications- The new notifications display in IE9 is less intrusive, but still easy-to-spot.
- Download manager- built-in download manager in IE9.
- Tracking protection lists- IE9 makes it easy to keep websites from tracking your browsing habits using tracking protection lists.
- Smartscreen filter- verifies URLs against Microsoft’s blacklist and blocks known malicious sites.
- One Box- One Box combines the address and search bar into one
- Standards compliance- Internet Explorer 9 implements a lot of the new HTML 5 standards, including embedded video and audio, canvas, and SVG.

With each new version released, Google will begin supporting the newest version, and will stop supporting the 3rd oldest version of Chrome, Firefox, and IE and Safari.
If you or your company chooses not to get the latest versions, you will have difficultly using the following Google products: Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Talk, Google Docs, and Google sites. Eventually these apps will stop working entirely on older browsers. As more websites begin to transition to HTML5 to take advantage of the functionality, older browsers will become unreliable. Additionally, newer browsers are generally speaking more secure, protecting you from constantly evolving dangers on the web.
As the world depends more on the web as a personal or company business tool, these new browsers are more than just a modern convenience, they are a necessity for remaining current in a contemporary world.
