Google Analytics Updates

Google Analytics Updates

Google is in the process of launching a new version of Google Analytics that introduces a new user interface and several infrastructure improvements.  According to the company,  the interface now has  more of an enterprise aesthetic.  Specific improvements include:

Navigation

Google Analytics V5 no longer requires users  to choose an account and profile.  Google simplified navigation by allowing direct access to the new Dashboard and reports. The new navigation prioritizes account home, dashboards, my site, custom reports, account manager and settings.

Account Home

When you log into Google Analytics, you now see the new Home section that list all of the accounts and profiles that you have access to.   For those that have access to several accounts, the list of accounts is now searchable.

Improved Dashboards

The new version now has the capability to create multiple dashboards, each containing any set of graphs.   Dashboards can now be set by hierarchy, department, interest or any other rule.

Custom Reporting Tool

Google Analytics still has custom reports, but you can now apply filters to your reports removing the need to add advanced segments or in-report filters.   They also have changed the names of reports to create a more accurate and intuitive user experience for clients.   A few examples include:

  • Top Content is now Pages
  • Goals are now Conversions
  • Visit Duration and Page Depth are now Engagement

With the new changes to Google Analytics slowly rolling out, please contact us if you have any questions on Google Analytics or reporting for your site.
