The Challenge:

The Viral Hepatitis Action Coalition began its online efforts with a one-page overview displayed on the CDC Foundation Web site. As the Coalition grew and increased their focus on providing a meaningful resource to support patients, healthcare professionals and at-risk individuals, they needed a full website that offered user-generated content, event announcements and other materials to support these specific audiences and facilitate new partnerships.

The Goal:

As each of the Coalition’s three audiences requires specific information and resources, the goal was to establish clear, effective and ongoing communications with each group, beginning with the home page. After conducting a comprehensive information gathering process, Cool Blue identified the need for, and created, a clear and compelling introductory page using evocative imagery and messaging to prompt the user to further explore the site. By designing a section dedicated to individuals impacted by Viral Hepatitis, including personal stories and functionality enabling users to submit their own, the site promotes increased engagement by personally investing the user. The site also enables partners and sponsors to submit events to promote the education, prevention and treatment of Viral Hepatitis.

The Result:

With a compelling home page and intuitive navigation, the site quickly and intuitively funnels users to the audience-specific information they need. A Drupal Content Management System provides ease of access for site administrators, enabling them to continuously update content as Coalition efforts evolve. Using a workflow established within the CMS, users can submit stories and events to be reviewed by VHAC staff and approved for site publication. With an expanded online presence, VHAC is better positioned to support patients, healthcare providers and sponsors, and deliver timely information that promotes educated decision-making, key partnerships and improved care for Viral Hepatitis.
